About the Lion Dance
The lion dance is an important Chinese tradition performed on auspicious
occasions, such as weddings. Performed by two martial artists, the dance is
believed to bring the newlyweds good luck and happiness, and ward off evil
spirits. A scroll is sometimes prepared, bearing the words:
(literally translated as "a hundred years of happiness together"),
to be unfurled by the lion during the performance, and
later presented to the couple as a memento.
